About Us
The U.S. National Science Foundation Scientific Ocean Drilling Coordination Office (SODCO) works with scientists to plan and implement research activities related to scientific ocean drilling (SciOD), including expeditions, workshops, and pre-drilling activities. SODCO’s goal is to facilitate U.S. SciOD research activities that address key scientific questions in Earth science, oceanography, geomicrobiology, and related fields.
You can use the SODCO Application Portal to apply for:
- Workshop Program – Submit a proposal to lead a workshop focused on scientific ocean drilling.
- Innovation Grants Program – Submit a proposal to support a novel research or technical study that will will advance our understanding of critical topics in the field of ocean drilling research.
- Pre-Drilling Activity Program – coming Fall 2026
- Schlanger Ocean Drilling Fellowship Program – coming Fall 2026
- Participation in a scientific ocean drilling expedition – TBD
